<ahem>...INTERVIEWED here at eBooks Rock! I'm very
excited to introduce the first of my victims, Bonnie
Mercure, author of The Jacob Theory, a finalist in the
Fantasy category of the EPPIES. BM- The Jacob Theory revolves around Julie and Jacob, teenaged twins who are far from an ordinary sister and brother. These two know how to suffer, how to survive, how to take care of one another. Jacob and Julie also share a thrilling 'gift'--a gift no one no else would believe. Though if this 'gift' is considered a hindrance or a blessing, is one of the many questions that is raised in The Jacob Theory. eBR!-And what inspired you to write The Jacob Theory? BM- My childhood was similar to the characters in The Jacob Theory. For me, writing the novel was a lot cheaper than going to therapy. eBR!-Do you have a favorite scene from the book? BM- Yes. It's the last scene in the book, when everything falls into place. I can't describe it though or else I'll give away the ending! eBR!-Is there a book out there that you're just dying to write but for some reason haven't? BM- I have several story ideas floating around in my head, but it's just a matter of getting enough time to write about them. I would love to be able to spend all my computer time writing instead of promoting and marketing my writing, but then my work would never get read. eBR!-What would you say has been your biggest writing challenge? BM- Finishing my first novel "The Curse of the Three-Headed Circus." Before that I'd only written and published short stories, so it was difficult to keep working on a project where the ending seemed so far away. eBR!-Is there anything out there that you'd like to do, but haven't yet been given the opportunity? BM- I'd love to be able to make a living writing fiction. eBR!-Is there a book that you've written, but we'll never see? Why? BM- Not a book, but there are plenty of short stories I've written that are so awful I'd be embarrassed to show anyone--though at the time I thought they were great and sent them out to editors. The editors were smart enough to reject them. eBR!-Why did you decide to publish in the electronic industry? BM- I thought e-publishing was the best option for my two current novels, because of their length and the fact they don't fit in any certain category. eBR!-If you weren't a writer, what would you be doing? BM- I'd watch talk shows and soaps all day. eBR!-Of all the character's you've written about, who would you say is most like you? And why? BM- I am really not like my characters. My characters take on a life of their own, where at times they even surprise me. But if I'd have to pick one character I'd have to say I'm more like Jacob from my novel "The Jacob Theory." I'm quiet and shy but there is more to me than that. eBR!-What's the non-writing world like for you? Is there a husband, a boyfriend, slaves hidden in the basement? Children? BM- I'm married to my high school sweetheart. We have two young children, two cats and one dog. I work the night shift in a nursing home, part-time, and my husband works in construction during the day. I like that I can be home during the day with the kids. That's very important to me. eBR!-Many
readers wonder what's going on in an author's head, and
here's the part where we find out<g>. BM- Obsessed writer, dreamer, a wife and mother. eBR!-(Finish this sentence) On a Saturday night you'll find me... BM- Either writing, reading or watching a movie. eBR!-If I were a cartoon character I'd be... BM- Bugs Bunny. eBR!-If I could have one wish, I would wish... BM- For lots of people to read and enjoy my books. eBR!-What kind of car do you drive? BM- A 1996 Ford Taurus. eBR!-What kind of car do you *want* to drive? BM- Believe it or not, my 1996 Ford Taurus. eBR!-Answer
the following questions as quickly as possible, but feel
free to expand on any of your answers (Hey, it's not a
test).: BM- The Matrix eBR!-Favorite song? BM- "Let it Be" by the Beatles. eBR!-Favorite snack? BM- Popcorn eBR!-Favorite book? BM- The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. eBR!-Typewriter or computer? BM- Computer! eBR!-Soup or salad? BM- Salad eBR!-Pre-planner or blind leap? BM- I'm a little of both. eBR!-Turkey burger or steak? BM- Since I've never tasted a turkey burger, I'll have to say steak eBR!-Slacks or jeans? BM- Jeans eBR!-Boxers or briefs? BM- Boxers eBR!-Are blondes really more fun? BM- No. That's a myth. eBR!-Have you ever held anyone hostage? BM- Not yet. eBR!-If no, would you? BM- Maybe if enough money was involved. eBR!-Do you believe in love at first sight? BM- I believe in lust at first sight--love takes a while. eBR!-Are aliens real? BM- I hope so. eBR!-If you could vote members off of Gilligan's Island, who would get the boot first? BM- I think they all should have gone down with the ship. eBR!-If Godzilla and Superman got into a street fight (no weapons allowed), who would win? BM- Godzilla would eat Superman eBR!-What is one thing about you that very few know? BM- I used to like Milli Vanilli. eBR!-What is your greatest fear? BM- To lose one of my children or a family member. eBR!-And finally (and you can take your time on this one:-)), what's next for you? Your next book? Writing venture? Goal? BM- I'm working on
a dark fantasy novel titled "Twilight
Guardians," a story about an old woman and a young
girl who share a unique bond, where they see and know
things about the world nobody else does. The two of them
must use these 'gifts' to save the world. Remember to visit Bonnie's Website! |
